Two platforms

Your subscriptions did not move with your phone

Changing platform moves your contacts and your photos. The subscriptions stay exactly where they were, billing quietly against an account you stopped opening.

This is one of the most reliable sources of a forgotten charge, and one of the least suspected, because the obvious place to look is the phone in your hand — which is precisely the place the old subscription is not.

Why the two lists never meet

Each store is its own merchant. Apple bills you for the apps subscribed through Apple; Google bills you for the ones subscribed through Google. Neither has any visibility into the other, and your bank frequently sees only a bundled charge from each, with no breakdown at all.

What makes one picture possible

  • Reads a screenshot of your banking app, App Store, Google Play, PayPal or an e-mail receipt
  • Lists every recurring charge it finds, with the service, price and billing cycle

The household version

The same problem appears without changing phone at all, when one person in a home is on one platform and another is on the other. Two separate lists, one shared set of services, and a reasonable chance of paying twice for one of them.
